With An In Home Care Provider Fairfield CT Residents Needing Help Are In Excellent Hands

By Cynthia Stone

Most healthy people that effortlessly perform all the many tasks that for part of day to day living do not realize just how many people cannot do so any longer. Older and frail people, injured and disabled people and many others need help at some level in order to cope. They are not mentally incompetent but simply too frail to perform certain physical acts. With help from an in home care provider Fairfield CT patients can still enjoy life to the full.

When a family member or a loved one needs to be looked after, many families resolve to take on this responsibility themselves. This may turn out to be a poor solution, however. They may soon find out that they do not have the time required to look after a frail person. This can create feelings of guilt and often even resentment about the fact that sacrifices have to be made.

Nobody wants to think about the possibility that they may end up in need of a caregiver. Yet official statistics show that at least one in ten of all people will need some form of help, sooner or later. People over the age of sixty are much more likely to require such services. Sadly, medical insurance does not pay for the services of a long term caregiver.

It is only to be expected that it can become hugely expensive to pay for the services of a caregiver over the long term. Many families can ill afford such a situation without making some serious personal sacrifices. The best route of action is to recognize the fact that such help will be needed at some time and to make provision for the cost by buying special insurance.

Many patients simply will not admit they simply cannot cope by themselves any longer. They think that it is a sign of weakness to admit to the need for assistance. Otherwise, they think that they will have to forfeit their independence and the ability to determine their own routines. Such patients need to be gently informed about the alternatives and the fact that caregivers are not there to take over.

Hiring a caregiver should be done very carefully. After all, this person will be responsible for the well being of a loved one. Specialist recruiting agencies may be able to provide valuable assistance. The patient should be involved, if possible. This will make it easier to select someone that will be compatible with the physical and emotional needs of the person that will be living with the caregiver.

Patients are almost certainly happier when taken care of in their own homes by a caregiver than they are in facilities and institutions. Many of these facilities have excellent reputations but they cannot allow their residents to determine their own routines or make decisions about their daily programs. At home, patients are at least able to retain some measure of independence and they can determine their own routines.

Caregivers do important work. They help their clients to retain a high level of independence, to live with dignity and to continue enjoying most of the things that they used to treasure. It is no wonder that, over time, many caregivers and their patients form very strong bonds.
