Factors To Consider While Building A Wells Maine Concrete Foundation

By George Smith

Most homeowners can construct a slab as long as they have the right tools, time and experience. Such kinds of projects are considered when one needs to build an extension of his or her house such as a patio, garage or a court. You should be careful with your choices since the result determines the stability of your structure. The following are tips for building a Wells Maine concrete foundation to take into consideration.

Determine the kind of foundation to make. The type of footing that one adopts depends on the various aspects of the intended location. A shallow footing is expected to be made on level grounds and hard surfaces. They are usually three feet deep and are meant for small projects. Deep footing should be dug more than three feet. They are built in places with loose soil. They are suitable for complex projects.

Come up with a budget. Having a budget ensures that one does not spend more than their capacity and achieves his or her expectations at the same time. Acquaint with the common prices in the market to maintain reasonable price ranges. Include every important item and aspects needed in this process.

Excavate the area to set in the slab. Consider hiring an excavator if you are constructing a deep footing. The width of the hole should be three times the initial width of the slab. This is to allow enough space which the constructor can move along while setting in the mixture. Compress the soil using a compactor and putting sand or gravel inside the excavated area to improve its drainage.

Lay a barrier and frames. You should use a barrier underneath the footing to prevent moisture and radon from sipping to the surface. Use a hard polythene paper which is designed specifically for this purpose. The frames should be set continuously to achieve a level slab after removing them. The woods are also supposed to be straight as well.

Mix and pour the entire slab. You should consider using a mixer to mix concrete to use less time and ensure that it is done accordingly. Place the mixture close to the framing to reduce the time and energy used while carrying the concrete around. Pour the mixture using a wheelbarrow or shovel depending on the choice which seems to be convenient. After that, level your slab using a trowel.

Finish the understructure. Leave the concrete to dry before you remove the forms. You can leave it for about twenty-four hours before you consider removing it. The understructure is expected to be kept wet for a couple of days to avoid cracking. You can soak it twice a day or thrice if it is very hot. Cover the slab if it is rainy to avoid depression in the foundation which leaves it uneven.

Seek professional help. You should consider the intervention of a professional expert to handle this task if you cannot manage to handle it accordingly. Choose a professional who is experienced, have the right tools and affordable pricing as well.
