What Are The Rock Formation Types

By Walter Murphy

You just cannot underestimate the purpose of rocks in the lives of people. You may not know of it but there are several firms and businesses in the industry who are relying on these minerals to create and continuously producing products they are known of offering. They do normally gather rocks through the use of rock ripper on site.

But they just cannot get any rocks they see because depending on their needs, there are three main rock formation on the layers of ground. All three has its distinct character, appearance and formation process. They have different uses and you cannot expect these three to be of the same kind generally.

Sedimentary rocks are those which has been formed from particles found on sand, pebbles, shell and other fragment material there is. If you combine all these particles together, they are referred to as the sediment. However, to develop these kinds of materials, there needs to be a long period of time needed.

But even after years of its formation, sometimes it is not even enough to make it as hard compared to other forms. Out of the three main types of this formation, sedimentary is by far the weakest. You can present it in a slight pressure and it will then be crushed down to pieces exposing all the particles which has harden within it.

But, amongst the three, this specific type are known to be only one which possesses fossils in it. You could see that once it all breaks down and you can see what its really made up of. Some of the most common type of these rock formation would be the limestone and the one which is named conglomerate.

Then next are metamorphic which are often formed right at the lower surfaces of the earth. It develops through a phase called metamorphoses and is changing due to the heat and pressure they have been exposed to underneath. This makes them shiny in appearance like a crystal or minerals.

They even are considered as crystal and mineral because of the way they look. Their development also takes time like the first ones. And they do grown over the time, making them way more expensive and precious. Some samples you have for this formation would be the marble which may be used on flooring and a gneiss.

Last you have the igneous rocks which are way down below the surface wherein its hot. This is made up of magma which has harden through time and have cool down already. It does not really look quite close with a crystal but this is somehow shiny in appearance. You may see these rocks only underneath but they can casually come out.

When that happens, you usually see them out of the volcanoes in a form of lava. Lava are normally known to cool down quickly but they do not come in crystal formation at all. They do have a shiny glasslike look though. However, because of the sudden eruption, they do come in gas bubbles which are trapped right inside the rock as the cooling process happens. That is the reason of tiny holes and spaces in it. Some of its type are basalt and obsidian.
