It is among the most limited mineral yet very necessary. In plants, different compound elements are used to kill pathogens and fertilize the soil. Additionally, small doses are incorporated into animal and human food to boost proper growth. Furthermore, some compounds are used to manufacture certain drugs such as antispasmodics. These applications are explained in detail below.

Iodide components are known for their use in the manufacture of Liquid Crystal Display or LED screens. There are numerous such devices such as computer, television, modern watches and calculators just to mention a few. To operate, LED equipment contain fluid crystals which are activated by power. On activation, they are able to show digits such as in watches or images and videos as seen in televisions. The main use of iodide in LED components is to dope polymer polarizing screens in one direction thus allowing content display.

According to the World Health Organization, one of the main causes of brain damage is insufficient iodized salts. Minerals are vital in the development of brains as well as the nervous system. Most significantly, pregnant mothers and children are advised to take in sufficient iodized elements for proper mental health. Normally, this is found primarily in iodized salts. Sodium chloride alone can be insufficient especially where individuals prefer very little amount. To supplement this, people are encouraged to take more meat and vegetables that have been iodized.

The amount of this mineral in salt is not adequate to meet human needs. This is why researchers came up with an alternative method to increase intake. Today, animal feeds are also combined with iodine-compounds. Thus, when individuals consume meat, it also has some amount of iodide. Notably, animals do not require these compounds. Such animals include cows, goats, pigs, and poultry.

To begin with, specific iodized elements are used in making Nylon. Nylon is the actual component that prevents overheating and thus improve the durability of wheels.

Iodides are also essential in manufacturing certain drugs. It is an active ingredient of numerous varieties of drugs such as coronary vasodilators, neuromuscular blocking agents and antispasmodics. Differently, organic compounds act as intermediate elements in the production of certain products. These are antibiotics, corticosteroids, and UV-B absorbers.

A lot of research has been carried out to find out how iodized salts can be used to grow healthy crops. Apparently, like animals, plants do not need iodates. However, soluble iodized salts can be used in soil fertilization. When these mix with soil, they help in the production of biomass content that is rich in different nutrients. It also raises the level of antioxidants in plants which is essential in helping them remain healthy during a dry spell. When vegetables are treated with iodate fertilizers, they are healthier to consume.

Iodophors are great pathogen control agents. When plants are sprayed with these formulations, they are protected from bacterial diseases. On the other side, hypo iodide is used to manage fungal infections in vegetation.
