Using Round Cake Dummies For Decorating

By Frances White

These things are only used for when someone is practicing on decorating a cake. Why? Because it is easier to redo a mistake if the cake was made of Styrofoam instead of real bits. It would be a waste to the real cake if we just destroy it just because the design went wrong. So what better way than to use a dummy for this sort of thing instead? By using Round Cake Dummies.

Or use any type that is any shape. It was debatable which is easier to handle but we suggest going for a square shaped one but just smoothen out the edges so your fondant does not break upon contact with the corners. It is tiring to cover the broken sides after all and we really do not want to start over.

See, just because it may look easy when we watch other people do it, does not mean that it is. It is only easy when you are looking at it but when you are actually on it and doing the thing yourself, you will see that it is the farthest from easy. It is not rocket science but boy, is it as difficult to do as building a rocket itself.

That is a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point. This is why we need the dummies as practice to decorate before we actually decorate the legit thing. If we go straight into coloring and decorating the actual thing, then the mistakes made on that will be irreversible. At least it will still b edible, right?

Sometimes that is even hard to do than just cooking a normal meal. Because you were not doing it for yourself, you were doing it for other people who are paying you for it. They have their expectations and it is your responsibility to meet it. It is hard but that is just how work is, no matter which industry it is.

That being said though, make sure that you are actually good at it. People in this industry can get really intense. I mean, have you SEEN Gordon Ramsay go on and on about how people are so stupid and bad at it? yeah, we love that guy but we would rather not get in his way or meet him at all.

Imagine being stuck in a really warm kitchen where there is n ventilation or windows that could keep you cool. Other cake decorators are stuck there with you trying to design their own fake cake. You spend hours and hours just to make sure that the thing is perfect and you have to go back and forth for the ingredients.

And even then those are far and between. The best way to not let this get to you, or to move around it in your favor, is to announce it beforehand that you are not as great as you are. That you actually are just mediocre if not less than that. So when they see your product, they will be impressed.

Pretend it did not happen and move on? Or start ver because of some dop of sweat that ruined everything? This job is tiring, man.
