Wax-resin ribbons are suitable for making both weatherproof and standard thermal transfer labels. The images produced are of a higher quality that those produced by full-wax ribbons. The images offer adequate resistance against moisture and temperature changes and occasional heavy handling. They cost moderately and are good for shelf labels, prescription pharmaceutical, shipping, and barcode.

Pure resin is applied to make full resin ribbons. They have much higher melting temperatures. On melting, they dissolve into the material on which the printing is being done. With this, an extremely lasting finish is created. Normally, the quality of the end product is very high. Therefore, a person needs to ensure that the situation calls for use of this material in order to use it. Or else, it may be a needless overkill and waste of resources.

Among the three listed ribbon types, full resin ribbons cost the highest. They are in the same way the most durable. It is their durability that makes them ideal for utilization in faux stocks and additional applications that do not use paper. It is advised that full resin ribbons are used on textile or garment labels, labels for vehicles, very flexible packaging, and highly susceptible medical and chemical uses.
