People do not go to school for the sake of it. They do so to be able to get a job in the future. Being employed is a good thing. It will make a person to be able to sustain himself. The fact that one has a degree certificate does not mean that one will automatically get a particular job. There will be some vetting that will have to be done so that to verify if one is the right candidate. Definitely, there will be an interview. There will also be pre employemnt drug testing.

Thousands of companies all over the United States of America usually test potential hires for substances before they are hired. That is also the case in other countries such as Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, and Italy. The main motivation for doing so is the desire for a substance free workplace. This is the best workplace that a company can have.

Substance testing is not a new thing. It has existed for a number of decades. In addition, it will not end any time soon. It will continue existing till the end of time. This concept is gaining traction in many countries all over the world. The United States of America is on the forefront when it comes to this matter.

The last thing that an employer will want is for his workforce to have drug users. He will not even want to have a single substance user. Even if the employer is a regular user of substances, he will not desire his workers to be people who use substances. That is due to the many costs that are associated with employing substance abusers.

A workplace that has a number of employees who regularly use substances will be a very toxic workplace especially to the employees who are teetotalers. In such a workplace, fights are easy to break out. Substances normally make people to be very irritable. This kind of workplace will also have low team spirit and morale. Thus, productivity will drop.

The most abused substance in the workplace is marijuana. This is one of the substances that are likely to be tested for before a person is hired. A marijuana user is likely to continue using marijuana even after he is hired. Marijuana impairs the functioning of the brain. That affects performance at work. Cocaine and heroin are also commonly abused by people.

Substances tests are getting better with the progression of time. Presently, there are state of the art tests that can detect even the smallest traces of substances. A urine test is commonly used. It is affordable and effective. It involves taking a urine sample and then testing it for the various substances. In most cases, six drugs are tested.

Drug users cost companies billions of dollars every year. That hurts the national and the global economy. Every year, millions of dollars is spent to treat substance related injuries. There are also rehabilitation costs that are also expensive. To avoid these costs, many companies normally have pre employment substance testing. This will save a company from a lot of trouble and costs.
