The Best Concrete Sealer Sprayers

By Margaret Cox

Applying sealers to your concrete surfaces can be tricky. Although you may use different rollers and other applicators, this could never produce results you are hoping for. Concrete sealer sprayers are definitely the best when it comes to applying different types of sealers on your concrete surfaces, but you still have to be very careful when choosing the right type of equipment.

There are so many sealer types today. Some are water based, while some can be solvent based. Among other things, the base determines the time needed for evaporation. Different sealers might contain various percentage of solids, as well as numerous different resins. In any case, all this might be important when you have to choose the best equipment for your work.

In any case, the best choice is probably one high quality low pressure, high volume, airless sprayer. This type of equipment can be used in different situations, for both water and solvent based sealers and for most types of resin. It is highly efficient, allowing you to cover really large surfaces in very short period of time, with highly controlled application rates.

Pump-up sprayer works best with lower solid contents, basically lower than 35 percent. It is designed for solvent based sealers, and it is quite important to maintain it regularly. This means you should clean the nozzle after every application. It might not be so highly efficient as the first one, but it is much cheaper and provides very good results.

Cheap applicators may serve you well if your surfaces are perfectly smooth. Wool applicators work well with some sealers, but they still cannot provide the same coverage level as sprayers do. Concrete surfaces are rarely perfectly smooth, and if you use such applicators, it will probably result in imperfections you would probably rather avoid.

High solid sealants can be perfectly applied on smooth surfaces using metal t-bar applicators, for example roofs, pools and similar surfaces. It can be really useful to place thicker sealant down using such applicator, followed by another, thinner spray-applied layer for additional protection. Whatever work has to be done, always read the manufacturer's instructions first and follow their recommendation.

When it comes to sealer application, the general rule is that several thinner layers provide better results than one layer of the same quantity. This requires more work, but the results have much higher quality and durability. Read manufacturer's instructions first, choose the appropriate equipment and take a good care of your personal safety as well.

Solvents might be quite aggressive to your skin, and that's why you need to protect both your skin and your clothes. This is another reason for keeping your equipment clean and in a perfect condition, especially when it comes to sprayers. In case you use this type of equipment for inadequate types of sealers, the nozzle might clog and burst.
