By Donna McDonald

Getting a dog as a pet and companion is a joy in itself and many are enjoying this experience. You may have seen a sign or advertisement that said small Parti Yorkies for sale and this has picqued your interest somewhat. Before you do make a decision, do finish off this article to educate yourself on what are basic things to know about this specific breed.

Prior to your purchase of this dog it may be useful to know the basic difference between the yorkie and the parti yorkie. And the simple answer to that query is there is absolutely none. The only main difference is that the yorkie comes in two colors only being tan and blue while the parti comes in blue, tan and white. The color of the parti is attributed to a recessive gene that just recently came about in the past 30 years.

In the 1980s, the first tri color Yorkie or parti came about, which the breeder refused to get rid of or destroy. It was not accepted as a variation of the breed until recently, which made many owners quite happy.

These dogs do crave activity, participation and attention. These three factors working together make them react well to training, and do quite well in trick and agility competitions. They also adapt well to animal life and can get along with other dogs quite easily, though they have a bit of alpha dog behavior in the household, meaning they want to be the boss.

The breed has a single coat layer, which basically means that it will not shed. Their fur has a similar consistency like human hair, which makes it soft and fine also. Thus like human hair it will require grooming as it grows longer. When it does reach a fair length, it should be brushed out daily for it not be prone to tangling and matting.

These dogs need to be fed three to four times a day in small portions, because of their always active state. In this regard, they will also need to have a fresh supply of water every day to cool them off and prevent dehydration.

Should you look for a breeder, make sure that you look for one that has in his or her mind the goal of improving the breed. The breeder should know specific health issues of the breed as well as being not only honest, but also an ethical breeder from the eyes of the canine breeding community. Make a thorough check of any potential breeder you have an eye on.

This article has thus shown some things that you should consider prior to your Yorkie purchase. There are definitely a lot of other things to consider in helping you become a better and more qualified pet and dog owner, but suffice to say the items in this article should provide the base information that you can work on and build upon on your search.
