The Advantages And The Disadvantages Of Processes In Screen Printing

By Michael Reed

Screen printing is one of the most commonly used technologies today. This process would include squeezing a blade into a printing paste through the opening of the screen onto a fabric. This process can be used on various types of medium such as on paper boards, fabrics, papers, metals, glass, cotton, plastic, and nylon. And the most common products that can be produced out from these materials are labels, textiles, electronic boards, posters, and signages.

Advantages. Longer lasting. The composition and the thickness of the inks are the main reasons for the durability of this process of Maryland screen printing. And because of this, the designs being placed with the use of this method have the ability of withstanding much more stress. Thus, better if compared to others without the loss of any quality of print.

Large orders friendly. The method requires fabricating the screen for the colors is in a particular artwork, so because of this reason, larger orders can be made. It simply means each unit can have lesser costs whenever more and more garments have been done as well. Great finish. To produce vibrant colors can make your designs become more unique and hard to replicate with other techniques.

More ink. This process allows greater ink thickness compared to the other techniques. And the most possible result of this would be having greater possibilities of finishing the piece perfectly. Versatility. You will surely find a hard time of searching for another method which is as versatile as the screen process of printing. This is good for any surface like fabric, plastic, metal, flat, and wood.

Straightforward. Regardless of the changes in the operations, either doing it by hand or automatically through a machine, processes are still the same. Another advantage is replacing the tools easily. These are not considered as obsolete tools like what other technologies are.

Disadvantages. Small orders could be impossible. Like those statements being mentioned above, a screen printing process needs more preparations than other techniques do prior to production. And thus, considering this process as a suitable one for on demand printing. This means an item is then immediately produced after being ordered.

More colors means higher costs. It is a bit hassle to create one screen for each of the colors. And thus, saying that colorful designs could be very complicated, which makes the item become more expensive. So the best suggestion to this is keeping the design simple with fewer tones but with so much of attractiveness.

It is not environmentally friendly. Even if a lot of efforts have already been made for creating eco friendly screens and inks, there is still this reality in which the method is still wasting so much water. Water is one main ingredient for the mixtures of inks and for cleaning the screens. This problem may still continuously increase due to the thousands of productions every day.

Relative complexity. A contradiction is what is being similar to. The process may sometimes be complicated depending on the level of projects or designs being created. One main reason to this is due to having more steps involved than others.
